CMRPI in NCR continues its slower annual increase in May 2019
On an annual basis, the Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) moved up at a slower pace of 1.6 percent in May 2019. Its annual growths were higher at 1.7 percent in April 2019 and 2.6 percent in May 2018. Annual hikes decelerated in the indices of carpentry materials at 1.6 percent; electrical materials, 1.1 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 1.9 percent. On the other hand, a higher annual mark-up was posted in masonry materials index at 4.3 percent during the month. The rest of the commodity groups retained their previous month’s annual rates (see Table 2).

Retail prices of selected construction materials remain stable in May 2019
The CMRPI in NCR posted a zero growth in May 2019. It recorded a 0.04 percent increase in April 2019. The masonry materials index rose by 0.3 percent in May 2019 from a 0.3 percent drop in April 2019. On the other hand, the increments in the indices of carpentry materials and painting materials and related compounds eased to 0.1 percent and 0.03 percent, respectively. The index of electrical materials declined by 0.2 percent and plumbing materials index by 0.03 percent. The indices of tinsmithry materials and miscellaneous construction materials exhibited zero growth during the month (see Table 3).
Higher prices were observed in lumber, cement, sand, hollow blocks, common wire nails, paints and faucet in May 2019. On the contrary, electrical wires and corrugated G.I. sheet were priced lower this month.
