  • The May 1, 2012 total rice stock inventory was 2.67 million metric tons (Figure 1). This was 1.4 percent higher than the previous month’s record of 2.64 million tons but 21.3 percent less than last year’s level of 3.4 million metric tons (Table 1).
  • This month’s stock levels in the households and commercial sectors were higher than last month’s records. Stock holdings increased by 12.1 percent in the households and by 50.6 percent in commercial warehouses. The volume of stocks in NFA depositories went down by 34.3 percent.
  • Relative to last year’s inventory records, stock holdings decreased by 4.3 percent in the households and by 52.7 percent in NFA depositories. However, stocks in commercial warehouses were higher by 14.4 percent.
  • The total rice stock inventory as of May 1, 2012 would be enough for 79 days. Stocks in NFA depositories would be good for 20 days, while those in commercial warehouses would last for 24 days. Household stocks would last for 35 days.
  • Of this month’s total rice stocks, 44 percent were with the households, 26 percent were with the NFA depositories, and 30 percent were with the commercial warehouses.

CORN

  • The total corn stock inventory as of May 1, 2012 was estimated at 204.7 thousand metric tons (Figure 2). This was 4.4 percent lower than last month’s record of 214.2 thousand metric tons, and 0.7 percent less than last year’s inventory of 206.2 thousand metric tons (Table 2).
  • Relative to last month’s levels, corn stocks in commercial warehouses recorded an increment of 40.2 percent. However, stocks in the households went down by 43.8 percent. Stocks in NFA depositories increased from 0.01 thousand metric ton to 0.30 thousand metric ton.
  • Compared to last year’s records, stocks declined by 13.2 percent in the households, while those in commercial warehouses increased by 6.3 percent.
  • Of the May 1, 2012 stock level, 68.5 percent were with the commercial warehouses and 31.4 percent were with the households. Around 0.1 percent was held in NFA depositories.
