RICE STOCK

  • As of September 1, 2009, total rice stock inventory was estimated at 2,370.6 thousand metric tons. It was 4.4 percent lower than the previous month’s level but 23.3 percent more than last year’s record.
  • Compared to last month, household stocks dropped by 4.9 percent. Stocks in NFA depositories, of which 77 percent were imported rice, also went down by 7.1 percent. In contrast, commercial sector holdings went up by 7.0 percent.
  • Stock inventories in all sectors were higher compared to last year. Stocks in NFA depositories grew by 48.0 percent while those in households and commercial warehouses went up by 0.3 percent and 7.5 percent, respectively.
  • The September 1, 2009 inventory of rice stocks would be enough for 68 days. Stocks in NFA depositories would be good for 37 days, while those in commercial sector would be good for 11 days. Household stocks would last for 20 days.

CORN STOCK

  • The total corn stock as of September 1, 2009 amounted to 360.2 thousand metric tons. This was higher by 67.4 percent compared to last month’s level and 5.7 percent from same period last year.
  • Compared to last month, all sectors reported increment in stocks. The volume of stocks held was higher in households by 116.4 percent, in commercial warehouses, by 39.9 percent, and in NFA depositories, by 62.0 percent.
  • Compared to last year, stocks in the household sector dropped by 30.8 percent, but these went up by 49.4 percent in commercial warehouses.
  • Of this month’s total corn stock, 43 percent were with households, 48 percent with the commercial warehouses and 9 percent with the NFA depositories.
