  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

    The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR and AONCR correspondingly went up to 126.6 and 131.6 in June from their respective May levels of 126.1 and 131.4.

    Bigger demand of selected food items due to the opening of classes pushed up prices of FBT items in NCR relative to the expected trend. However, this seasonal factor did not affect prices of FBT items in AONCR.

    On a monthly basis, prices of seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in NCR grew by 0.4 percent in June from 0.1 percent in May. Meanwhile, increases in the prices of seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items at 0.2 percent was slower that the 0.3 percent growth last month.

  2. B. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR posted at their corresponding June levels of 150.1 and 143.0 were higher than their respective May levels of 149.7 and 142.5.

Higher demand for school supplies, clothing and footwear items brought about by the opening of classes pulled up prices of non-FBT items in NCR. The practice of increasing tuition fees every start of the school year also raised prices of non-FBT items in the area. On the contrary, prices of seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items in AONCR were not influenced by these seasonal factors.

Compared to last month, inflation of the seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items in NCR slowed down to 0.3 percent in June from 0.7 percent in May while that in AONCR picked up to 0.4 percent from 0.3 percent.
