Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - June 2007)

  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR and AONCR correspondingly went up to 130.3 and 135.0 in June from their respective May levels of 130.1 and 134.7.

Seasonal factors such as the weather disturbances that were experienced during the month and the opening of classes did not push up prices of FBT items in two areas relative to the expected trend.

The month-on-month inflation of seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in NCR was at its last month's rate of 0.2 percent while in AONCR it increased at a rate of 0.2 percent in June from 0.1 percent in May.

  2. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR were recorded at 152.3 and 146.6 in June from their respective May levels of 152.2 and 145.8.

Higher demand for school supplies, clothing and footwear items brought about by the opening of classes pulled up prices of non-FBT items in NCR. The practice of increasing the tuition fees every start of the school year also raised prices of non-FBT items in the area. These seasonal factors, however did not affect prices of non-FBT items in AONCR.

The month-on-month inflation of the seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items in NCR slowed down to 0.1 percent in June from its last month rate of 0.5 percent. Meanwhile, in AONCR, prices of seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items moved up to 0.5 percent in June from 0.4 percent in May.
