Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - November 2007)

  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR and AONCR correspondingly registered at 134.5 and 138.6 in November were higher than their respective October levels of 133.9 and 137.7.

Seasonal factors such as the inclement weather condition caused by tropical depressions experienced in some parts of the country brought insufficient supply of selected vegetables in the markets in NCR and AONCR. Prices of fish were also up in the two areas due to lower supply of marine fish brought about by reduced fishing trips during the cold and stormy mornings in the past few days. Moreover, bigger demand of meat was also noted in the observance of All Saint’s Day and All Soul’s Day. All these factors raised prices of FBT items in the two areas relative to the expected trend.

The month-on-month inflation of seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in NCR and AONCR remained at their last month’s rate of 0.4 percent and 0.7 percent respectively.

  2. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR respectively moved up to 154.3 and 148.2 in November from their corresponding October levels of 154.1 and 147.3.

Seasonal factors such as production of selected goods in preparation for holiday season resulting to adequate supply of goods in the markets pushed down prices of non-FBT items in the two areas.

Compared with October 2007, movements in the prices of seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR increased respectively by 0.1 percent and 0.6 percent in November.
