Month-on-Month Growth Rates

  • Philippines
  • On a monthly basis, the seasonally adjusted CPI for all items at the national level decreased by 0.1 percent in November from 0.2 percent in October. Movement in the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels index further went down by 0.6 percent. In addition, slowdowns were recorded in the indices of health at 0.2 percent; recreation and culture, 0.1 percent; and education, 0.3 percent. On the other hand, the alcoholic beverages and tobacco index inched up 0.8 percent. The indices of furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services retained their last month’s rates of 0.2 percent and clothing and footwear, 0.3 percent.

    Relative to the expected trend, the seasonal factor of bigger volume in production of selected goods in preparation for the coming Christmas season generally pushed down the indices for all items; alcoholic beverages and tobacco; clothing and footwear; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house; health; recreation and culture; and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services. Meanwhile, this seasonal factor raised the education index during the month.

  • National Capital Region (NCR)
  • In NCR, the non-food and transport indices correspondingly declined by 0.6 percent and 0.3 percent in November from their respective last month’s rates of 0.3 percent and -0.2 percent. Moreover, slower monthly increments were posted in alcoholic beverages and tobacco index at 0.4 percent and furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house index, 0.2 percent. The education index, however, grew by 0.4 percent.

    The preparation for the forthcoming holiday season resulted to increase in production of selected goods during the period. This seasonal factor generally pulled down the indices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco; non-food; furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house; and transport. On the contrary, this seasonal factor pushed up the education index relative to the expected trend.

  • Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)
  • In AONCR, a negative rate of 0.4 percent was registered in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels index in November from a zero growth in October. Likewise, a slower monthly gain was seen health index at 0.1 percent. Meanwhile, a higher growth was noticed in alcoholic beverages and tobacco index at 1.0 percent. The indices of clothing and footwear; furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house; and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services remained at their previous month’s rate of 0.2 percent; recreation and culture, 0.1 percent; and education, 0.3 percent.

    The indices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco; clothing and footwear; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house; health; and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services were pushed down by the seasonal factor like the on-going higher production of selected goods in preparation for the yuletide season. This seasonal factor, however, pushed up the education index while it did not affect the recreation and culture index.
