Month-on-Month Growth Rates

  • Philippines
  • At the national level, the seasonally adjusted CPI for clothing and footwear went up by 0.4 percent in November from 0.3 percent in October; and recreation and culture and education, 0.3 percent from their corresponding last month’s rates of 0.2 percent and 0.4 percent. Meanwhile, the following indices retained their last month’s rates: all items, 0.4 percent; alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 0.7 percent; health, 0.3 percent; and furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services, 0.2 percent. The index for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, however, decreased by 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent.

Relative to the expected trend, the seasonal factor such as the increase in production in preparation for the forthcoming holiday season pushed down the indices for all items; alcoholic beverages and tobacco; clothing and footwear; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house; health; and recreation and culture. However, this seasonal factor pushed up the education index while it did not affect the index for restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services.

  • National Capital Region (NCR)
  • In NCR, increments in the indices of furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house and transport were higher at 0.2 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively from their corresponding October rates of 0.1 percent and 0.3 percent. Meanwhile, the index for alcoholic beverages and tobacco moved at its last month’s rate of 0.2 percent and education index, 0.4 percent. The non-food index recorded a zero growth from 0.2 percent.

The seasonal factor such as higher production of selected goods for the coming holidays pushed down the indices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco; non-food; furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house; and transport. On the other hand, this seasonal factor raised the index for education.

  • Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)
  • In AONCR, higher monthly gains in the seasonally adjusted CPI were registered in the indices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 0.7 percent in November from 0.5 percent in October; clothing and footwear, 0.4 percent from 0.2 percent; recreation and culture, 0.2 percent from 0.1 percent; and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services, 0.3 percent from 0.2 percent. The indices for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, however, went up at a slower rate of 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent and education, 0.3 percent from 0.4 percent. Movements in the indices for furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house and health remained at 0.2 percent and 0.3 percent, respectively.

The indices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco; clothing and footwear; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house; and health were pulled down by the seasonal factor such as the increase in volume of production of selected goods in preparation for the Yuletide season. However, this seasonal factor pushed up the indices of education and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services while it did not affect the index for recreation and culture.
