1. Philippines

The deseasonalized CPI for all items at the national level in June 2021 moved at its previous month’s rate of 0.2 percent.

The month-on-month growth rate in the seasonally adjusted CPI for non-food remained at 0.3 percent in June 2021, while that for food non-alcoholic beverages inched up to 0.1 percent, from -0.1 percent in May 2021.

Month-on-month increments were, however, slower in June 2021 in the seasonally adjusted CPI of the following:

          a. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 0.7 percent from 0.8 percent;
          b. Clothing and footwear, 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent;
          c. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, 0.5 percent from 0.6 percent;
          d. Furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house, 0.2 percent from 0.6 percent;
          e. Health, 0.1 percent from 0.3 percent; and
          f.  Restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services, 0.3 percent from 0.5 percent.

Moreover, the seasonally adjusted CPI for recreation and culture, and education dropped to -0.1 percent and -1.5 percent, respectively, from their corresponding previous month’s rates of zero growth and 0.1 percent.

The seasonal factor such as the degree of demand for selected goods and services during the season pushed up the indices of recreation and culture, and education.

On the other hand, this seasonal factor pushed down the indices of the following:

          a. All items;
          b. Food and non-alcoholic beverages;
          c. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco;
          d. Clothing and footwear;
          e. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels; and
          f.  Health.

The indices of non-food; furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house; and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services were, however, not affected by this seasonal factor. (Table 1)
 

2. National Capital Region (NCR)

In NCR, the month-on-month increase of the seasonally adjusted CPI for all items decelerated to 0.1 percent in June 2021, from 0.3 percent in May 2021.

Month-on-month growth rate went down in the deseasonalized CPI of education at -3.0 percent in June 2021, from 1.0 percent in May 2021. In addition, monthly increments slowed down in the seasonally adjusted CPI for non-food; and furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house at 0.2 percent from 0.7 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels at 0.6 percent from 1.0 percent, and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services, 0.5 percent from 0.7 percent.

On the contrary, monthly upticks were higher in the seasonally adjusted CPI for alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 1.4 percent from 0.7 percent, and clothing and footwear, 0.2 percent from 0.1 percent. Similarly, the seasonally adjusted CPI for transport went up to 0.3 percent in June 2021, from -0.4 percent in May 2021; and recreation and culture, 0.1 percent from -0.1 percent.

The seasonally adjusted CPI for food and non-alcoholic beverages retained its previous month’s rate of 0.2 percent, while that for health posted a zero percent growth during the month, from 0.2 percent in the previous month.

The seasonal factor such as the degree of demand for selected goods and services during the season pushed down the indices of the following:

          a. All items;
          b. Food and non-alcoholic beverages;
          c. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco;
          d. Clothing and footwear;
          e. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels;
          f.  Health; and
          g. Transport.

This seasonal factor, however, pushed up the indices of the following:

          a. Non-food;
          b. Furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house;
          c. Education; and
          d. Restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services.

Meanwhile, recreation and culture index was not affected by this seasonal factor. (Table 2)
 

3. Areas Outside National Capital Region (AONCR)

In AONCR, the seasonally adjusted CPI for all items moved up at a slower pace of 0.1 percent in June 2021, from 0.2 percent in May 2021.

Month-on-month hikes decelerated in the seasonally adjusted CPI of the following:

          a. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 0.5 percent from 0.8 percent;
          b. Non-food; furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house; and restaurant and miscellaneous
              goods and services, 0.2 percent from 0.4 percent;
          c. Clothing and footwear, 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent; and
          d. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, 0.4 percent from 0.6 percent.

However, the deseasonalized CPI for education went down month-on-month by -1.3 percent in June 2021, from 0.1 percent in May 2021. Meanwhile, the seasonally adjusted CPI for food and non-alcoholic beverages inched up to 0.1 percent during the month, from -0.1 percent in the previous month.

A zero percent growth was registered both in the seasonally adjusted CPI for health, and recreation and culture during the month.

The seasonal factor like the degree of demand for selected goods and services during the season pushed down the indices of the following:

          a. All items;
          b. Food and non-alcoholic beverages;
          c. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco;
          d. Clothing and footwear;
          e. Furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house;
          f.  Health; and
          g. Restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services.

On the other hand, this seasonal factor pushed up the indices of recreation and culture, and education. Meanwhile, the indices of non-food; and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels were not affected by this seasonal factor. (Table 3)
