1. Philippines

The month-on-month growth of the seasonally adjusted CPI for all items at the national level was recorded at 1.0 percent in June 2022, from 0.5 percent in May 2022.

Faster monthly increments were also observed in the seasonally adjusted CPI for the following commodity groups:

          a. Food and non-alcoholic beverages at 1.1 percent, from 1.0 percent;
          b. Non-food at 0.8 percent, from 0.5 percent;
          c. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels at 0.6 percent, from 0.5 percent; and
          d. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance at 0.5 percent, from 0.3 percent.

In contrast, slower monthly increments were noted in the deseasonalized CPI for restaurants and accommodation services at 0.4 percent, from 0.6 percent; and personal care and miscellaneous goods and services at 0.3 percent, from 0.4 percent. It was also noted that the month-on-month growth of the seasonally adjusted CPI for education services dropped to -0.1 percent in June 2022, from zero growth in the previous month.

Meanwhile, the seasonally adjusted CPI for alcoholic beverages and tobacco remained at 1.5 percent. Similarly, the monthly growth of the deseasonalized CPI for clothing and footwear, and health both remained at 0.3 percent.

The seasonal factor such as the degree of demand of selected commodities during the season pushed down the indices of the following commodity groups:

          a. All items;
          b. Food and non-alcoholic beverages;
          c. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco;
          d. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels;
          e. Health; and
          f.  Education services.

Although this seasonal factor pushed up the indices of non-food; furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance; and restaurants and accommodations services, it did not affect the indices of clothing and footwear, and personal care and miscellaneous goods and services. (Table 1)

2. National Capital Region (NCR)

The monthly uptick of the deseasonalized CPI for all items in NCR picked up to 1.2 percent in June 2022, from 0.7 percent in May 2022.

Likewise, higher monthly increases were noted in the seasonally adjusted CPI for the following commodity groups:

          a. Food and non-alcoholic beverages at 1.6 percent, from 1.1 percent;
          b. Non-food at 0.9 percent from 0.8 percent;
          c. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels at 1.1 percent, from 0.4 percent; and
          d. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance at 0.7 percent from zero growth; and
          e. Information and communication at -0.1 percent, from -0.2 percent.

On the contrary, slower monthly growths were observed in the deseasonalized CPI for alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 1.2 percent, from 1.6 percent; clothing and footwear at 0.4 percent, from 0.5 percent; health at 0.1 percent, from 0.7 percent; and restaurants and accommodation services at 0.1 percent, from 1.5 percent. The deseasonalized CPI for education services dropped by -0.9 percent, from its corresponding previous month’s growth of 0.5 percent.

Meanwhile, the month-on-month growth of personal care and miscellaneous goods and services remained at 0.3 percent.

The seasonal factor such as the degree of demand for selected goods and services during the season pushed down the indices of all items; food and non-alcoholic beverages; alcoholic beverages and tobacco; health; and personal care and miscellaneous goods and services. On the other hand, this seasonal factor pushed up the indices of non-food; furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance; education services; and restaurants and accommodation services.

This seasonal factor, however, did not affect the indices of clothing and footwear; housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels; and information and communication. (Table 2)

3. Areas Outside National Capital Region (AONCR)

The monthly growth of the seasonally adjusted CPI for all items in AONCR increased to 0.9 percent in June 2022 from 0.5 percent in May 2022.

Similarly, faster month-on-month increments were noted in the deseasonalized CPI for the following commodity groups:

          a. Food and non-alcoholic beverages at 1.1 percent, from 1.0 percent;
          b. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 1.6 percent, from 1.5 percent;
          c. Non-food at 0.8 percent, from 0.5 percent;
          d. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance at 0.5 percent, from 0.4 percent;
          e. Health at 0.4 percent, from 0.3 percent; and
          f.  Restaurants and accommodation services at 0.4 percent from 0.3 percent.

On the contrary, the monthly growth of the seasonally adjusted CPI for personal care and miscellaneous goods and services slowed down to 0.3 percent, from its corresponding previous month’s rate of 0.4 percent. Further, education services recorded a drop of -0.1 percent in June 2022, from 0.1 percent in May 2022.

In addition, the month-on-month growth of the deseasonalized CPI for clothing and footwear; and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels remained at 0.3 and 0.4 percent, respectively.

Furthermore, zero growth was observed in the monthly growth of the deseasonalized CPI for information and communication from 0.1 percent in May 2022.

The seasonal factor like the degree of demand for selected goods and services during the season pushed down the indices of all items; food and non-alcoholic beverages; alcoholic beverages and tobacco; housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels; health; and education services.

While this seasonal factor pushed up the indices of restaurants and accommodation services and personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services, it did not affect the indices of non-food; clothing and footwear; furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance; and information and communication.
