The first quarter 2018 volume of hog production
As of April 1, 2018, total swine population was 1.92 percent higher compared with the previous year’s inventory of 12.51 million heads . Stocks in backyard farms slightly increased by 0.34 percent while inventory in commercial farms increased by 4.82 percent . The top three (3) regions in terms of inventory were Central Luzon with 16.91 percent share, CALABARZON with 12.29 percent share, and Western Visayas with 9.92 percent share to the country’s total swine inventory.
The first quarter 2018 average farmgate price of live hogs increased by 14.03 percent , or from the PhP 99.59 per kilogram, liveweight in 2017, to PhP 113.56 per kilogram, liveweight this year.
Technical Notes
This Swine Situation Report presents the swine industry in terms of volume of production, inventory by farm type and average farmgate prices. This report was prepared to serve as ready reference for our various clients and stakeholders in the agriculture sector. It is released quarterly in January, May, August and November every year.
Concepts and Definitions:
Volume of Production this refers to the volume of locally-raised animals disposed for slaughter which include animals shipped-out for slaughter. This is expressed in thousand metric tons, liveweight.
Inventory refers to the actual number of domesticated animals present in the farm as of a specific reference date.
Farmgate Price refers to the price received by farmers, livestock and poultry raisers for the sale of their produce at the first point of sale net of freight.
