22nd PSQ regional finals held

Another pool of 16 young statistics whizzes emerged in the 22nd Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) regional championships held simultaneously last November 14. Their journey continues as they compete in the National Finals slated on December 5, 2013 at the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) in Quezon City. Due to the massive destruction caused by super typhoon Yolanda, Region VIII was not able to conduct its regional championship.

Together with their coaches, these young hopefuls will be provided with free accommodation and allowance including a roundtrip fare for outside National Capital Region contestants. At stake for the top five placers in the 22nd PSQ National Finals are specially designed trophies and cash prizes. Coaches of the winners shall likewise take home an amount equivalent to half of their student’s cash prize.

The PSQ is an annual competition which aims to appraise the competency and skills of college freshmen in statistics as acquired from high school. The National Statistics Office and the Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. organized this noble undertaking in 1992 with the advocacy of drumming up public awareness and appreciation of statistics. The CHEd began endorsing this competition in 1994.
