Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index in the National Capital Region (1985=100) : September 2005

  • Month-on-Month

    The Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) registered a slower rate of increment of 0.2 percent in September from 1.4 percent in August. The price of plywood dropped by 0.4 percent from zero growth. Increases in the prices of hardware and structural steel decelerated to 0.1 percent from 0.7 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively. On the other hand, higher increases were observed in the prices of the following commodity groups: cement, 0.3 percent from zero growth; fuels and lubricants, 3.7 percent from 2.3 percent; glass and glass products, 1.9 percent from 0.6 percent; interior electrical fixtures and devices, 0.4 percent from -0.2 percent; and electrical rough-in materials, 0.5 percent from -0.2 percent. Prices of the rest of the commodity groups generally remained stable as they posted zero growth this month.
     

  • Year-on-Year

    The annual inflation rate based on the CMWPI in NCR eased to 12.9 percent in September from 13.1 percent in August. Slower annual inflation were seen in the prices of the following commodity groups: plywood, 5.4 percent from 6.1 percent; hardware, 7.2 percent from 8.3 percent; metal pipes, 38.6 percent from 42.5 percent; concrete products, 11.0 percent from 11.1 percent; plumbing fixtures, 1.7 percent from 2.9 percent; paints, 8.9 percent from 14.6 percent; G.I sheets, 14.4 percent from 15.0 percent; and tileworks, 9.1 percent from 9.7 percent. On the other hand, annual add-ons in the prices of cement, fuels and lubricants, glass and glass products, structural steel, interior electrical fixtures and devices, and electrical rough-in materials were higher while the annual inflation rates recorded in the prices of asphalt, aluminum and other metal products, blasting materials, and machinery and equipment rental were zero. The rest of the commodity groups moved at their previous month's rates.
