Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index in the National Capital Region (1985=100) : January 2006

  • The Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) moved up to 0.9 percent in January from -0.2 percent in December. The price of cement went up by 6.3 percent in January compared to the 0.1 percent growth in December; exterior electrical equipment/supplies, 0.5 percent from 0.1 percent; interior electrical fixtures and devices, 2.1 percent from 0.4 percent; and electrical rough-in materials, 2.5 percent from 0.6 percent. Moreover, prices of the following commodity groups increased during the month from zero growth: lumber, 4.5 percent; wood products, 2.6 percent; glass and glass products, 0.5 percent; concrete products, 2.5 percent; plumbing fixtures, 1.3 percent; aluminum and other metal products, 0.3 percent; and tileworks, 1.1 percent. Prices of the rest of the commodity groups either decreased or posted zero growth.
     

  • Year-on-Year

    The annual inflation rate of the CMWPI in NCR decelerated to 8.6 percent in January from 13.0 percent in December. Slower rates were noted in the annual price increments in most of the groups of construction materials. Annual price gains were however higher in the prices of cement, fuels and lubricants, concrete products, plumbing fixtures, and aluminum and other metal products. The rest of the commodity groups retained their previous month's rates of price increases.
