Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index in the National Capital Region (2018=100): June 2024

The monthly growth rate of the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) posted a negative rate of -0.6 percent in February from zero growth in January as reductions were observed in the following commodity groups: plywood, -2.1 percent from 1.2 percent; fuels and lubricants, -3.0 percent from -8.7 percent; hardware, -0.5 percent from 2.3 percent; metal pipes, -0.1 percent from zero growth; reinforcing steel, -2.9 percent from -1.9 percent; and structural steel, -2.4 percent from -1.6 percent. Slower price increases were also noticed in lumber, concrete products, paints and exterior electrical equipment/supplies. Meanwhile, price increases were registered in sand, stone and gravel, cement, wood products, glass and glass products, plumbing fixtures and tileworks. Prices for the rest of the commodity groups generally remained stable as they recorded zero growth in February.

The annual growth rate of the CMWPI in NCR decelerated to 17.1 percent in February from 18.3 percent in January. An annual price decline was still noted in fuels and lubricants at -21.2 percent from -20.1 percent. Likewise, slower annual movements were seen in the prices of plywood (3.4% from 5.6%); hardware (24.5% from 25.9%); metal pipes (12.9% from 13.0%); PVC pipes (7.7% from 10.4%); reinforcing steel (45.0% from 49.4%); structural steel (25.0% from 28.9%); interior electrical fixtures and devices (7.6% from 9.0%); electrical rough-in materials (5.8% from 7.0%); and UPVC water pipes (7.3% from 7.3%). Meanwhile annual additions were higher in the prices of sand, stone and gravel, wood products, glass and glass products, concrete products, plumbing fixtures, exterior electrical equipment/supplies and tileworks. Annual price movements for the rest of the commodity groups were at their last monthÒ³ rates while that for blasting materials and machinery and equipment rental was zero.
