CMWPI in NCR accelerated in September 2022

The year-on-year change of CMWPI in NCR picked up to 10.4 percent in September 2022, from 7.0 percent in August 2022. This was also higher than its annual growth recorded in September 2021 at 4.6 percent. (Tables A and 2)

The increase was primarily brought about by the double-digit annual increase in the index for concrete products and cement at 12.1 percent, from 6.3 percent in August 2022. In addition, annual increments were higher in the indices of the following commodity groups:

a. Sand and gravel, 6.7 percent;
b. Hardware, 8.6 percent;
c. Plywood, 6.4 percent;
d. Lumber, 7.0 percent;
e. G.I. sheet, 12.7 percent;
f. Reinforcing and structural steel, 12.4 percent;
g. Doors, jambs, and steel casement, 7.0 percent;
h. Electrical works, 8.1 percent;
i. Plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks, 9.0 percent; and
j. Painting works, 11.6 percent.

On the other hand, annual hikes slowed down in the indices of PVC pipes, and fuels and lubricants at 3.1 percent and 29.5 percent, respectively.

The rest of the commodity groups either retained their previous month’s annual growth rates or had zero percent annual growths in September 2022. (Table 2)
