• Month-on-Month

  The monthly growth rate of the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) moved up to 0.5 percent in January from 0.1 percent in December. Higher price increases were posted in the indexes of cement at 1.0 percent in January from 0.7 percent in December; hardware, 0.7 percent from -0.1 percent; metal pipes, 1.6 percent from -0.6 percent; and concrete products, 1.4 percent from -0.1 percent. From zero growth, the index of the following commodity groups also advanced: sand, stone and gravel, 1.8 percent; plumbing fixtures, 1.2 percent; reinforcing steel, 0.2 percent; G.I. sheets, 3.7 percent; exterior electrical equipment/supplies, 4.2 percent; interior electrical fixtures and devices, 2.5 percent; and electrical rough-in materials, 2.8 percent. However, price reductions were observed in lumber and wood products while the rest of the commodity groups either recorded a slower movement or a zero growth during the period.
  

• Year-on-Year

  On an annual basis, the change in the wholesale prices of construction materials in NCR was still negative at -0.6 percent in January from -1.1 percent in December. Downward annual adjustment was seen in the index of plywood (-4.2% from -3.0%); wood products (-1.5% from 1.7%); asphalt (-12.9% from -14.3%); reinforcing steel (-6.9% from -8.9%); and structural steel (-5.3% from -6.7%). Similarly, slower annual price gains were registered in the indexes of lumber, hardware, concrete products, paints and tileworks, On the other hand, annual price hikes were higher in sand, stone and gravel, cement, fuels and lubricants, metal pipes, plumbing fixtures, G.I. sheets, exterior electrical equipment/supply, interior electrical fixtures and devices, and electrical rough-in materials. Price movements for the other commodity groups were still at their last monthÒ³ annual rates while those for blasting materials and machinery and equipment rental were zero.
