  • Month-on-Month

Compared with March, the month-on-month growth of the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) eased to 1.9 percent in April from 2.4 percent. Monthly increments slowed down in the following commodity groups: fuels and lubricants index, 3.1 percent from 6.8 percent; doors, jambs and steel casement, 0.6 percent from 2.6 percent; lumber, 1.4 percent from 2.9 percent; painting works, 0.5 percent from 1.4 percent; reinforcing steel, 1.6 percent from 2.5 percent; plywood, 2.2 percent from 2.5 percent; and G.I. sheet, 0.1 percent from 0.4 percent. However, upward adjustments were noted in the indexes of sand and gravel, concrete products, hardware, structural steel, tileworks, glass and glass products, electrical works and plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks. The same previous month's rate of 0.2 percent was seen in cement index. Price adjustments for the rest of the commodity groups remained stable during the month.

  • Year-on-Year

The annual growth of the CMWPI in NCR picked up to 8.3 percent in April from 6.9 percent in March. This was effected by the double-digit annual rates posted in the indexes of plywood at 10.8 percent from 8.8 percent; lumber, 13.5 percent from 12.3 percent; and fuels and lubricants, 18.4 percent from 16.2 percent. Higher annual rates in the indexes of sand and gravel, concrete products, hardware, reinforcing steel, tileworks, doors, jambs and steel casement, electrical works, plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks and painting works also contributed to the uptrend. Meanwhile, slower annual movements were noticed in the indexes of cement, G.I. sheet, structural steel and asphalt. The annual gain in the indexes of glass and glass products and PVC pipes were still at their last month's annual rates while that for machinery and equipment rental index was zero.
