Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index in the National Capital Region (2000=100) : October 2011

    The Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) posted a zero growth in October from 0.3 percent in September. This resulted from the zero growth in most of the commodity groups during the month. A higher monthly gain was registered in cement index at 0.7 percent in October from -0.1 percent in September; plywood, 0.6 percent from 0.2 percent; and painting works, 0.1 percent from zero growth. On the other hand, a slower monthly increment was observed in electrical works index at 0.2 percent from 1.0 percent. Moreover, a -0.7 percent decline was noted in the index of fuels and lubricants during the month.

  • Year-on-Year

    The annual increase in the CMWPI in NCR decelerated to 8.2 percent in October from 8.7 percent in September. The annual rate of adjustment in cement index was still negative at -6.3 percent from -7.0 percent. In addition, slowdowns were noticed in the annual hikes in the indexes of sand and gravel, concrete products, hardware, structural steel, doors, jambs and steel casement, fuels and lubricants and asphalt. However, annual additions were higher in plywood, lumber, electrical works and painting works indexes. Movement in the machinery and equipment rental index was still zero while the rest of the commodity groups retained their previous month's rates.
