Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index in the National Capital Region (2000=100) : October 2012

    The annual change of the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) was recorded at 3.1 percent in October, same rate posted last month. The annual gain in the tileworks index went up to 2.7 percent in October from 2.3 percent in September; hardware index, 2.8 percent from 2.5 percent; lumber index, 4.4 percent from 4.1 percent; G.I. sheet index, 2.2 percent from 2.0 percent; sand and gravel index, 5.3 percent from 5.2 percent; concrete products index, 2.5 percent from 2.4 percent; and plumbing fixtures and accessories/ waterworks index, 0.8 percent from 0.7 percent. Annual adjustments for the rest of the commodity groups were either slower or remained at their September rates. The machinery and equipment rental index still had a zero annual growth.

  • Month-on-Month

    On a monthly basis, the CMWPI in NCR dropped by -0.1 percent in October from 0.5 percent in September as the fuels and lubricants index declined by -1.0 percent from 3.1 percent. A slowdown in the monthly increment noted in cement index at 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent also contributed to the downtrend. On the other hand, a higher monthly rate was seen in the indices of electrical works and plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks at 0.1 percent from -0.1 percent and plywood index, 0.5 percent from 0.2 percent. From zero growth, the monthly changes in the following commodity groups also increased: sand and gravel and painting works, 0.1 percent; G.I. sheet, 0.2 percent; and hardware and lumber, 0.3 percent. The indices for concrete products and tileworks retained their respective last month's rates of 0.1 percent and 0.4 percent while the other commodity groups had a zero growth.

    Price rollbacks were observed in gasoline, kerosene and diesel oil during the month while upward movements were registered in the prices of sand and gravel, concrete products, cement, plywood, lumber, G.I. sheets, floor tiles, some hardware items and paints.
