Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index in the National Capital Region (2000=100) : December 2011

    The month-on-month change of the wholesale prices of selected construction materials in the National Capital Region (NCR) went up at a slower rate of 0.1 percent in December from 0.7 percent in November. A decline was noted in fuels and lubricants index at -0.4 percent in December from 2.7 percent in November. Meanwhile, a higher monthly gain was recorded in plywood index (1.0% from -0.1%); doors, jambs and steel casement index (1.6% from 0.6%); and painting works index (1.1% from 0.5%). From a zero growth, the tileworks index also grew by 1.2 percent;cement index and electrical works index, 0.5 percent; and hardware index, 0.2 percent. The rest of the commodity groups have a zero growth during the month.

    The annual increment in the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in NCR eased to 8.3 percent in December from 8.6 percent in November. A negative annual rate was still observed in the cement index at -2.6 percent in December from -3.9 percent in November. Likewise, slowdowns were seen in the annual increases in the indexes of concrete products, G.I. sheet, structural steel, fuels and lubricants and asphalt. However, annual hikes were higher in the indexes of sand and gravel, hardware, plywood, lumber, tileworks, doors, jambs and steel casement, electrical works and painting works. The annual movements in the rest of the commodity groups either remained at their last month's rates or were zero.
