Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index in the National Capital Region (1985=100) : December 2010

    The monthly rate of price movement in the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) inched up to 0.1 percent in December from zero growth last month. Higher monthly price increment was posted in the index of fuels and lubricants at 3.0 percent in December from 2.3 percent in November. From zero growth, the indexes of the following commodity groups also advanced during the month: structural steel (0.6%); G.I. sheets (0.5%); and exterior electrical equipment (3.2%). However, price declines were respectively noted in the indexes of sand, stone and gravel and hardware at -1.4 percent and -0.4 percent from zero growth; and cement, -0.5 percent from -1.5 percent. Price adjustments for the rest of the commodities groups generally remained stable during the period.

  • Year-on-Year

    On an annual basis, wholesale prices of construction materials in NCR moved at its November rate of 4.9 percent in December. A higher annual price gain was observed in the index of metal pipes at 0.1 percent from -0.5 percent; structural steel, 8.6 percent from 7.0 percent; G.I. sheets, 8.2 percent from 7.7 percent; and exterior electrical equipment/supplies, 12.1 percent from 8.6 percent. On the other hand, annual price decreases were correspondingly seen in the indexes of wood products and paints at -0.6 percent and -0.5 percent, respectively. Moreover, annual price increases were slower in sand, stone and gravel, cement, lumber, fuels and lubricants, asphalt, hardware, aluminum and other metal products and tileworks. The growth rates in the prices of the other commodity groups were still at their previous month's annual rates while that for blasting materials and machinery and equipment rental index was zero.
