General Retail Price Index in the National Capital Region (2000=100) : June 2010

    On a monthly basis, the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) went up to 0.2 percent in June from 0.1 percent in May. Higher monthly price increment was registered in the food index at 0.7 percent in June from 0.3 percent in May; beverages and tobacco, 0.2 percent from zero growth; and mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 0.1 percent from -1.6 percent. The same previous month's rate of 0.2 percent was noticed in the price movement of machinery and transport equipment index. On the other hand, a slower monthly rate of price increase was recorded in the index of manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials at 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent while no price change was seen in the indexes of crude materials, inedible except fuels, chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats and miscellaneous manufactured articles.

    Upward price adjustments were noted in beef, pork, chicken, rice, fresh vegetables, chicken, cocoa products and cooking oil. Likewise, price hikes were observed in selected liquor and wines. 
     

  • Year-on-Year

    The annual growth rate of the GRPI in NCR eased to 3.5 percent in June from 3.9 percent in May. The annual price gain in beverages and tobacco index decelerated to 1.8 percent in June from 4.2 percent in May; crude materials, inedible except fuels, 1.5 percent from 1.6 percent; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 10.1 percent from 16.5 percent; and miscellaneous manufactured articles, 2.1 percent from 3.0 percent. Higher annual price hikes were however seen in the corresponding indexes of food and manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials at 3.9 percent and 2.5 percent from their last month's rates of 3.6 percent and 2.2 percent respectively. The annual growth of machinery and transport equipment index remained at 4.1 percent.
