General Retail Price Index in the National Capital Region (2000=100) : April 2010

    On a monthly basis, the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) went up to 0.3 percent in April from -0.1 percent in March. Higher monthly price increases were registered in the heavily weighted food index at 0.3 percent in April from -0.9 percent in March; crude materials, inedible except fuels, 0.7 percent from -0.1 percent; and machinery and transport equipment, 0.2 percent from 0.1 percent. The same previous rates of 0.1 percent and 0.4 percent were correspondingly noted in the indexes of beverages and tobacco and manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials. Meanwhile, the rest of the commodity groups have lower monthly price increments compared to March.

    Upward price adjustments were noted in rice, corn, flour, fruits and vegetables. Likewise, prices of gravel, sand, wood charcoal, electrical wires and wiring devices were also on the uptrend. 
     

  • Year-on-Year

    The annual growth rate of the GRPI in NCR moved up at 3.6 percent in April, the same rate posted last month. Annual price increments in food and crude materials, inedible except fuels indexes were higher at 3.6 percent from 3.1 percent and 3.0 percent, respectively and manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials index, 1.6 percent from 1.0 percent. The annual price hike in beverages and tobacco index slowed down to 1.9 percent from 2.4 percent; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 18.7 percent from 21.8 percent; chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 1.6 percent from 2.0 percent; machinery and transport equipment, 3.3 percent from 4.3 percent; and miscellaneous manufactured articles, 3.2 percent from 3.4 percent.
