• Month-on-Month

  On a monthly basis, the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) posted a zero growth in June from -0.8 percent in May. This was due to the off-setting monthly rates recorded in the indices: manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, -01 percent from 0.1 percent; machinery and transport equipment, -0.1 percent from 0.1 percent; crude materials, inedible except fuels index, -0.1 percent from -21.5 percent; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, -1.3 percent from -8.9 percent. Slower monthly price gain was also observed in food index at 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent and chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 0.2 percent from 0.3 percent. However, a higher monthly increase was seen in the miscellaneous manufactured articles index at 0.3 percent from 0.1 percent. The same May rate of 0.3 percent was noted in the beverages and tobacco index.

  Price reductions were noted in gasoline, LPG, kerosene, diesel fuel and engine oil. Price cuts were also observed in selected construction materials such as sand, plywood, nails and selected wiring devices. 
   

• Year-on-Year

  The annual growth rate of the GRPI in NCR slowed down to 3.8 percent in June from 4.1 percent in May. The annual increment in the heavily weighted food index was slower at 5.4 percent in June from 6.0 percent in May; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 18.2 percent from 19.8 percent; manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials and machinery and transport equipment index, 2.1 percent from 2.3 and 2.4 percent, respectively. The annual hike was higher in beverages and tobacco index at 3.1 percent from 3.0 percent; chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 2.1 percent from 1.9 percent; and miscellaneous manufactured articles, 1.3 percent from 1.0 percent, No movement was seen in the crude materials, inedible except fuels index as it had a zero growth from 0.1 percent.
