General Retail Price Index in the National Capital Region (2000=100) : May 2011

    On a monthly basis, the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) went down to -0.8 percent in May from 1.1 percent in April. Annual movement in the index of crude materials, inedible except fuels dropped by -21.5 percent from 27.2 percent and mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, -8.9 percent from 12.1 percent. In addition, increment in chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats index was slower at 0.3 percent from 0.4 percent and manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, machinery and transport equipment and miscellaneous manufactured articles index, 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent. Meanwhile, a higher monthly growth rate was noted in beverages and tobacco index at 0.3 percent from 0.2 percent.

    Price reductions were noted in charcoal, LPG, kerosene, gasoline and diesel fuel. 
     

  • Year-on-Year

    The annual growth rate of the GRPI in NCR slowed down to 4.1 percent in May from 5.1 percent in April. The annual increase in the heavily weighted food index was slower at 6.0 percent in May from 6.1 percent in April; crude materials, inedible except fuels, 0.1 percent from 28.5 percent; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 19.8 percent from 29.5 percent; manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 2.3 percent from 2.5 percent and machinery and transport equipment, 2.4 percent from 2.5 percent. Annual hike was however, higher in beverages and tobacco index at 3.0 percent from 2.7 percent and chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 1.9 percent from 1.7 percent. The miscellaneous manufactured articles index retained its previous month's growth rate of 1.0 percent.
