General Retail Price Index in the National Capital Region (2000=100) : October 2011

    On a monthly basis, the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) went up to 0.8 percent in October from 0.3 percent in September due to higher increment in the heavily-weighted food index at 2.3 percent from 0.4 percent. A slower monthly gain was however seen in manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials index at 0.2 percent from 0.6 percent. The same September rate of 0.1 percent was posted in beverages and tobacco index while that for mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials index dropped by -0.8 percent. The rest of the commodity groups registered zero growth during the month.

    Price hikes were noted in fish, vegetables and fruits. On the other hand, price reductions were observed in gasoline, LPG, kerosene and diesel fuel. 
     

  • Year-on-Year

    The annual growth rate of the GRPI in NCR inched up to 3.8 percent in October from 3.7 percent in September. The annual increase in the food index was higher at 5.9 percent in October from 4.5 percent in September. On the contrary, the annual uptick in mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials index decelerated to 14.6 percent in October from 18.2 percent in September; chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 2.3 percent from 2.4 percent; machinery and transport equipment, 1.6 percent from 2.1 percent; and miscellaneous manufactured articles, 1.3 percent from 1.4 percent. The annual movement in the indexes of beverages and tobacco and manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials remained at their respective last month's rates of 3.1 percent and 2.6 percent while crude materials, inedible except fuels index still posted a zero growth.
