GWPI

1. GWPI at the national level picked up in September 2021

On annual basis, the GWPI at the national level went up at a faster pace of 3.3 percent in September 2021, from 3.2 percent in the previous month. Its annual rate in September 2020 was recorded at 2.2 percent. (Tables A and 2)

Annual increments were higher in the indices of the following commodity groups during the month:

  • Food, 1.3 percent;
  • Beverages and tobacco, 5.3 percent;
  • Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 22.8 percent;
  • Manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 5.8 percent;
  • Machinery and transport equipment, 1.2 percent; and
  • Miscellaneous manufactured articles, 0.5 percent.

Meanwhile, annual increases were slower in the indices of crude materials, inedible except fuels; and chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats at 21.6 percent and 4.3 percent, respectively. (Table 2)

2. GWPI in Luzon moved up further in September 2021

The annual growth rate of GWPI in Luzon climbed further to 3.4 percent in September 2021, from 3.2 percent August 2021. In September 2020, its annual rate was observed at 2.3 percent. (Tables A and 2)

Higher annual upticks were seen in the indices of the following commodity groups during the month:

  • Food, 1.0 percent;
  • Beverages and tobacco, 5.3 percent;
  • Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 24.7 percent;
  • Manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 6.5 percent;
  • Machinery and transport equipment, 1.3 percent; and
  • Miscellaneous manufactured articles, 0.3 percent.

On the other hand, annual hikes decelerated in the indices of crude material, inedible except fuels at 22.8 percent; and chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats at 4.7 percent. (Table 2)

3. Annual increment of GWPI in Visayas eased during the month

The annual growth rate of GWPI in Visayas slid to 0.4 percent in September 2021, from 1.1 percent in August 2021. Its annual growth rate in September 2020 was noted at 0.9 percent. (Tables A and 2)

The index of food exhibited an annual drop of -0.4 percent during the month, from an annual hike of 1.1 percent in the previous month. Moreover, negative annual growth rates were still posted in the indices of chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats at -0.6 percent; and manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials at -0.1 percent. The annual uptick also slipped in the index of beverages and tobacco at 5.8 percent during the month.

On the other hand, the annual growth rates in the indices of crude materials, inedible except fuels; and mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials went up at faster pace of 1.8 percent and 6.3 percent, respectively.

The indices of the rest of the commodity groups such as miscellaneous manufactured articles, and machinery and transport equipment retained their corresponding previous month’s annual growth rates of 4.2 percent and zero percent, respectively. (Table 2)

4. GWPI in Mindanao picked up at slower pace during the month

The annual increase of GWPI in Mindanao eased to 4.9 percent in September, from 5.2 percent in August 2021. Its annual growth rate in September 2020 was recorded at 2.3 percent. (Tables A and 2)

An annual decline of -0.2 percent was still noted in the index of miscellaneous manufactured articles. In addition, annual decrement were recorded in the indices of the following commodity groups during the month:

  • Beverages and tobacco, 3.3 percent;
  • Crude materials, inedible except fuels, 22.3 percent;
  • Manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 0.2 percent; and
  • Machinery and transport equipment, 2.5 percent.

Annual increments were, however, higher in the indices of food at 8.7 percent; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials at 8.4 percent; and chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats at 5.2 percent. (Table 2)
