GWPI

1. The Philippines’ GWPI continued its upward trend in April 2022

The GWPI at the national level rose further with an annual rate of 8.3 percent in April 2022, from 7.6 percent in March 2022. Its annual growth in April 2021 was observed at 2.7 percent. (Tables A and 2)

Annual hikes were higher in the indices of the following commodity groups during the month:

a. Food, 9.0 percent;
b. Beverages and tobacco, 6.5 percent;
c. Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 53.3 percent;
d. Manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 7.8 percent; and
e. Miscellaneous manufactured articles, 1.7 percent.

On the other hand, annual increases were slower in indices of crude materials, inedible except fuels at 29.1 percent; chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 8.4 percent; and machinery and transport equipment,1.7 percent. (Table 2)

2. GWPI in Luzon also increased this month

Similar with the trend at the national level, the annual change of GWPI in Luzon moved up at a faster pace of 8.8 percent in April 2022. Its annual growth rate in March 2022 was noted at 8.2 percent and in April 2021 at 2.8 percent. (Tables A and 2)

Annual increments were higher in the indices of the following commodity groups during the month:

a. Food, 9.6 percent;
b. Beverages and tobacco, 6.7 percent,
c. Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 56.0 percent;
d. Manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 8.6 percent; and
e. Miscellaneous manufactured articles, 1.5 percent.

However, lower annual upticks were registered in the indices of crude materials, inedible except fuels at 32.1 percent; chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 8.9 percent; and machinery and transport equipment, 1.8 percent. (Table 2)

3. GWPI in Visayas noted higher annual increment in April 2022

The annual growth of GWPI in Visayas rose further to 4.3 percent in April 2022, from 4.1 percent in the previous month. Its annual growth rate was observed at 0.7 percent in April 2021. (Tables A and 2)

The index of chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats posted an annual increase of 0.8 percent in April 2022, from an annual drop of -0.5 percent in March 2022. Moreover, annual increments were higher in the indices of beverages and tobacco at 3.6 percent; manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 0.9 percent; and miscellaneous manufactured articles, 3.4 percent.

On the other hand, slower annual increases were observed in the indices of food at 6.5 percent; and in mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials at 43.9 percent.

The indices of crude materials, inedible except fuels; and machinery and transport equipment retained their previous month’s annual growth rates at 0.3 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively. (Table 2)

4. GWPI in Mindanao also went up in April 2022

The annual rate of GWPI in Mindanao, likewise, rose to 3.3 percent in April 2022. Its annual growth rate in March 2022 was posted at 3.0 percent and in April 2021, 4.6 percent. (Tables A and 2)

Annual hikes were higher in the indices of the following commodity groups in April 2022:

a. Food, 3.2 percent;
b. Crude materials, inedible except fuels, 5.8 percent;
c. Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 9.6 percent;
d. Chemicals including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 7.6 percent;
e. Manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 2.7 percent; and
f. Machinery and transport equipment, 0.8 percent.

The indices of beverages and tobacco; and miscellaneous manufactured articles retained their previous month’s annual growth rates at 6.8 percent and 2.1 percent, respectively. (Table 2)
