Reference Number: 2006-052

Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - July 2006)

  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR went up to 127.3 in July from 126.6 in June while that in AONCR decreased to 131.3 from 131.5.

Seasonal factors such as the stormy weather conditions that were experienced during the month caused delays in the delivery of vegetables from the production sites to the wet markets. The weather conditions also made difficult the catching of fish in deep waters. Thus, supplies of these food items were lower during the month, thereby pulling up prices of FBT items in NCR and AONCR relative to the expected trend.

Measured a month ago, prices of seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR grew to 0.6 percent on July from 0.3 percent in June. Meanwhile, price movements of the seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in AONCR dropped to -0.2 percent from 0.2 percent growth in June.

  2. B. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR respectively picked up to 151.3 and 143.6 in July from their corresponding June levels of 150.3 and 143.0. The lean month of July raised prices of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR.

The monthly rate of change of the seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR advanced to 0.7 percent in July from 0.4 percent June while that in AONCR remained at 0.4 percent.
