Updates on July-September 2022 Palay and Corn Estimates, 01 September 2022

HIGHLIGHTS

Based on standing crop as of 01 September 2022, the estimated palay and corn production for the period of July to September 2022 may increase its level in the same period of 2021.

PALAY
1. The estimated palay production for July to September 2022 may increase to 3.82 million metric tons or by 1.7 percent based on standing crop as of 01 September 2022, from its actual estimate of 3.75 million metric tons in the period of July to September 2021. On the other hand, the updated estimate of palay production as of 01 September 2022 for the period of July to September 2022 was lower by -0.9 percent than its estimate of 3.85 million metric tons as of 01 July 2022. (Table 1 and Figure 1)

2. The estimated harvest area for the period of July to September 2022 may increase to 928.10 thousand hectares or by 1.7 percent, from 912.66 thousand hectares actual estimate of harvest area in the same period of 2021. Yield per hectare of palay for the period of July to September 2022 may be even with the same period of last year’s actual estimate of yield per hectare at 4.11 metric tons. (Table 1)

3. About 384.42 thousand hectares or 41.4 percent of the 928.10 thousand hectares updated area of standing crop have been harvested as of 01 September 2022. (Tables 1 and 2)

4. Of the updated harvested area based on standing crop, the actual production was registered at 1.55 million metric tons as of 01 September 2022. (Table 2)

5. Of the total area of standing palay yet to be harvested as of 01 September 2022, 18.0 percent were at the reproductive stage and 82.0 percent were at the maturing stage. (Table 3 and Figure 2)

CORN
1. Based on standing crop as of 01 September, the updated corn production for the period of July to September 2022 may increase to 2.35 million metric tons or by 2.5 percent from its actual estimate of 2.29 million metric tons in the same period of 2021. The updated estimate of corn production as of 01 September 2022 was higher by 0.4 percent than its estimate of 2.34 million metric tons as of 01 July 2022. (Table 4 and Figure 3)

2. Harvest area for the period of July to September 2022 may decrease to 787.65 thousand hectares or by -2.7 percent, from 809.27 thousand hectares actual estimate of harvest area in the same period of 2021. Yield per hectare may increase to 2.98 metric tons or by 5.3 percent, from 2.83 metric tons in the same period of the previous year. (Table 4)

3. About 471.18 thousand hectares or 59.8 percent of the 787.65 thousand hectares updated area of standing crop have been harvested as of 01 September 2022. (Tables 4 and 5)

4. Of the updated harvested area based on standing crop, the actual production was recorded at 1.37 million metric tons as of 01 September 2022. (Table 5)

5. Of the total area of 316.47 thousand hectares of standing crop yet to be harvested as of 01 September 2022, 7.4 percent were at reproductive stage and 92.6 percent at maturing stage. (Table 6 and Figure 4).
