Rice and Corn Stocks Inventory, February 2006

RICE STOCK

  • Total rice stock as of February 1, 2006 was estimated at 1.89 million metric  tons. It was lower than last month’s stock volume by 10.0 percent, but 6.1 percent higher compared to last year. The current stock is enough to last for  63 days.
  • Compared to last month’s stock position, household and commercial holdings for this month dropped by 14.7 and 9.6 percent, respectively while stock in NFA depositories went up by 8.1 percent.
  • Compared to last year’s record, NFA recorded an increment of 82.5 percent but commercial and household holdings dropped by 3.8 and 3.0 percent, respectively. Imported rice accounted for 86.0 percent of NFA stocks.
  • Around 60 percent of the total rice stock inventory are with the households, while around 21 percent and 19 percent are with the commercial warehouses and NFA depositories, respectively.

CORN STOCK

  • The February 1, 2006 total corn stock inventory was placed at 184 thousand metric tons, lower than  the  preceding month and last year’s levels by 9.6 and 18.4 percent, respectively.
  • Commercial and household sector holdings decreased ranging from 8.2 to 27.4 percent over their month and year ago levels, respectively.
  • NFA reported 516 metric tons of corngrain stock for the period.
