Rice and Corn Stocks Inventory, September 2005

RICE STOCK

  • The total rice stock inventory as of September 1, 2005 was estimated at 1.32 million metric tons, lower than previous month’s level by 9.0 percent but 11.3 percent higher compared to that of last year. It is good for 47 days supply.
  • Stock position in all sectors dropped compared to their month ago levels ranging from 2 to 17 percent.
  • Compared to previous year’s same month stock position, NFA and household holdings increased by 21.3 and 11.1 percent, respectively. Around 96.0 percent of the NFA’s rice stock were imported.
  • Of the current rice stock, 44.0 percent were with the households while 37.0 and 19.0 percent were with the NFA depositories and commercial warehouses, respectively.

CORN STOCK

  • The September 1, 2005 national corn stock stood at 379.6 thousand metric tons, 68.2 and 13.5 percent higher than its month and year ago levels.
  • Corn stock in the households went up by 97.3 percent from last month’s  level but 27.0 percent lower from same month in 2004. The increase was attributed to the inflow of harvests in August. Even commercial warehouses posted increases of 50.3 and 105.7 percent over last month and last year’s same period levels, respectively.
  • NFA reported 69 metric tons of yellow corngrain for the period.
