Eastern Visayas tops per capita household spending in 2016

Eastern Visayas posted the fastest per capita household spending in 2016, which grew by 8.1 percent. It was followed by Central Luzon and Davao Region which recorded 7.4 percent and 6.9 percent, respectively.

Fourteen regions recorded accelerated per capita household spending growths in 2016 with Eastern Visayas’ economy growing the fastest. The other regions which posted higher growths were: ARMM (negative 1.4 percent); SOCCSKSARGEN (4.3 percent); MIMAROPA Region (4.5 percent); Caraga (2.5 percent); Zamboanga Peninsula (4.2 percent); Davao Region, (6.9 percent); Northern Mindanao (3.9 percent); Ilocos Region (5.5percent); Bicol Region (4.8 percent); Central Luzon (7.4 percent); Cagayan Valley (3.1 percent); Central Visayas (5.3 percent); and CAR (3.6 percent).

The remaining regions exhibited decelerated growths: Western Visayas (5.3 percent); NCR (5.4 percent); and CALABARZON (4.9 percent).

NCR remained the highest spending region on consumer goods and services at Php 1,311.2 billion or 23.3 percent of the national Household Final Consumption Expenditure (HFCE). Trailing behind were CALABARZON and Central Luzon at Php 912.7 billion and Php 704.3 billion, accounting for 16.2 and 12.5 percent, respectively of the total HFCE.

ARMM and Caraga likewise continued to be the low spending regions at Php 76.7 billion and Php 88.4 billion, contributing 1.4 percent and 1.6 percent, respectively.
