Total population is 75.33 million

The population of the Philippines as of May 1, 2000 is 75.33 million. This figure is higher by 6.71 million from the 1995 population.

Population growth rate is 2.02 percent

The annual population growth rate from 1995 to 2000 is 2.02 percent, which is lower by 0.30 percentage point from the 1995 figure of 2.32 percent and by 0.33 percentage point from the 1990 figures of 2.35 percent.

Four out of ten persons reside in NCR, Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog

The top three regions in terms of population count are Region IV - Southern Tagalog (11.32 million or 15.04% of the total), National Capital Region (10.49 million or 13.93%), Region III - Central Luzon (7.80 million or 10.35%). The population residing in these regions combined comprises 39.32% of the total Filipino population. This means that four out of ten persons in the country reside in NCR and the adjoining regions of Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog.

Pangasinan registers the highest population among the provinces

Pangasinan is the largest province with 2.42 million person. Other provinces with more than two million population include Bulacan with 2.23 million, Cebu with 2.18 million, and Negros Occidental with 2.13 million.

In NCR, three cities qualified as members of the Millionaires' Club. Quezon City has the largest population at 2.16 million, followed by Manila at 1.67 million, and Kaloocan City at 1.23 million.

Outside of NCR, the only highly urbanized city which surpassed the one millionth mark is Davao City with 1.15 million persons.

Average household size down at 4.92

The average size of a Filipino household declined to 4.92 persons from 5.07 persons in 1995. The top three (3) regions in terms of average household size are ARMM (5.85 persons), Caraga (5.23 persons) and Region V (5.20 persons). In NCR, Marikina has the highest average household size of 4.84 persons per household.
