Value of Production in Agriculture and Fisheries Increased by 0.6 Percent in the Fourth Quarter of 2021

In the fourth quarter of 2021, value of production in agriculture and fisheries at constant 2018 prices increased by 0.6 percent. This was attributed to the production increments in crops, poultry, and fisheries. On the other hand, livestock recorded drop in production. (Table 2a and Figure 1)

Crop production grew by 2.6 percent. It shared 59.1 percent in the total agriculture and fisheries production. Palay and corn posted expansions in production at 0.2 percent and 28.6 percent, respectively. (Tables 2a, 2b, and 3a)

Livestock production, which contributed 13.8 percent to the total agriculture and fisheries production, decreased by -9.7 percent. Downtrend in production was exhibited by hog at -12.6 percent.(Tables 2a, 2c, and 3a)

Poultry production, which accounted for 12.5 percent of the total agriculture and fisheries production, grew by 2.7 percent. Chicken egg production increased by 12.7 percent.  (Tables 2a, 2c, and 3a)

Fisheries production posted a 1.4 percent increment. It contributed 14.6 percent to the total agriculture and fisheries production. Two-digit increases in production were recorded for blue crab (alimasag) by 33.1 percent, tilapia by 17.8 percent, cavalla (talakitok) by 15.9 percent, mudcrab (alimango) by 15.1 percent, grouper (lapu-lapu) by 13.8 percent, threadfin bream (bisugo), and roundscad (galunggong) by 11.2 percent each, squid (pusit) by 10.8 percent, and bigeye tuna (tambakol/bariles) by 10.2 percent. At current prices, the value of production in agriculture and fisheries amounted to PhP 560.39 billion in the fourth quarter of 2021. This was 0.6 percent higher than the previous year’s level. (Tables 4a and 5a)
