Samar Recorded the Highest Annual Growth in the Value of Production in Agriculture and Fisheries at 2.8 percent in 2021 (At Constant 2018 Prices)

In 2021, Samar registered the highest annual growth of 2.8 percent in the value of production in agriculture and fisheries at constant 2018 prices among the provinces in Eastern Visayas. Increases in value of production were also noted in Southern Leyte and Biliran at 1.7 percent and 1.1 percent, respectively. On the other hand, declines were recorded in Northern Samar at -4.5 percent, Leyte at -1.8 percent, and Eastern Samar at -0.1 percent. (Figure 1)

The largest share to the total value of production in agriculture and fisheries at constant 2018 prices in Eastern Visayas was recorded in Leyte at 43.2 percent. The province also topped in crops, livestock, and poultry production with corresponding shares of 38.3 percent, 67.7 percent, and 80.6 percent. Meanwhile, Samar was the leading contributor to the value of fisheries production with 29.2 percent share.

At current prices, the value of production in agriculture and fisheries was highest in Leyte, which amounted to PhP 29.23 billion. This was followed by Samar at PhP 13.74 billion, Northern Samar at PhP 9.94 billion, Southern Leyte at PhP 6.39 billion, Eastern Samar at PhP 5.26 billion, and Biliran at PhP 2.85 billion.
