Annual increment of CMRPI in NCR slows down in August 2019

          The annual increase of Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) eased to 1.1 percent in August 2019. Higher annual rates were recorded in the previous month at 1.3 percent and in August 2018, 2.8 percent. The annual rate of plumbing materials index declined by 0.1 percent during the month. Moreover, slower annual mark-ups were noted in the indices of painting materials and related compounds at 1.2 percent and tinsmithry materials, 1.5 percent. Meanwhile, annual hikes were higher in the indices of electrical materials at 0.6 percent; masonry materials, 1.4 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 0.9 percent. The index of carpentry materials retained its previous month’s annual rate of 1.9 percent (see Table 2).

Retail prices of selected construction materials in NCR drop in August 2019

          The CMRPI in NCR decreased by 0.1 percent in August 2019. Its monthly rate in the previous month was noted at 0.1 percent. The indices of painting materials and related compounds went down by 0.1 percent; tinsmithry materials, 0.2 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 0.3 percent. In addition, the index of carpentry materials moved up at a slower pace of 0.2 percent Meanwhile, the indices of electrical materials and masonry materials inched up by 0.1 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively. The index of plumbing materials posted a zero growth during the month (see Table 3).

          Declines in the prices of paints, cement, and steel bars were noted during the period. On the contrary, prices of fabricated wire products such as common wire nails, lumber, gravel, sand and hollow blocks, G.I. pipes and corrugated G.I. sheets were higher this month.
