  • Month-on-Month

The month-on-month growth rate of the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) slowed down to 0.2 percent in September from 0.3 percent in August. This was due to the -1.0 percent drop in the index of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials from zero growth. A slower price increase in the food index at 0.3 percent from 0.7 percent was also seen during the month. The index of chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats had a zero growth from 0.1 percent. On the other hand, higher monthly price uptick was observed in beverages and tobacco index at 0.3 percent from 0.2 percent and manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 0.4 percent from 0.1 percent. The same previous month's rate of 0.1 percent was registered in the indexes of crude materials, inedible except fuels, machinery and transport equipment and miscellaneous manufactured articles.

Price roll backs were noted in gasoline, diesel fuel and kerosene. The price cuts in food items such as rice, corn, chicken, pork and vegetables also contributed to the downtrend.

  • Year-on-Year

The annual growth of the GRPI in NCR eased to 2.4 percent in September from 2.6 percent in August. The annual price change in the food index decelerated to 3.0 percent in September from 3.4 percent in August; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 4.9 percent from 6.1 percent; chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats, 1.5 percent from 2.1 percent; and miscellaneous manufactured articles, 1.7 percent from 2.1 percent.
