Annual growth rate of GRPI in NCR remained at 3.9 percent in August 2023

The year-on-year growth rate of GRPI in NCR remained at 3.9 percent in August 2023, ending its five consecutive months of slower annual increases. In August 2022, its year-on-year growth rate was recorded at 5.5 percent. (Figure 1, and Tables A, 2, and 4)

Faster annual increment was recorded in the index of miscellaneous manufactured articles at 1.8 percent during the month from 1.7 percent in the previous month. In addition, the index of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials declined at a slower rate of -5.0 percent in August 2023 from -15.3 percent in the previous month.

On the other hand, slower annual increases were noted in the indices of the following commodity groups during the month:

          a. Food, 6.9 percent from 8.2 percent;   
          b. Beverages and tobacco, 4.9 percent from 6.1 percent;  
          c. Crude materials, inedible except fuels, 3.8 percent from 4.0 percent; and  
          d. Manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 2.3 percent from 2.5 percent.

Meanwhile, the indices of chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats, and machinery and transport equipment retained their previous month’s annual rates of 3.1 percent and 1.4 percent, respectively. (Table 2)
