The 2023 United Nations World Data Forum (UNWDF), which took place from 24 to 27 April 2023 in Hangzhou, China, and was broadcasted live through the UNWDF platform, brought together a diverse group of data experts, policymakers, researchers, academics, and civil society representatives from around the world to exchange knowledge and experiences on data-related issues. This international event was a significant contribution to shaping the global data agenda and accelerating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Among the experts invited to speak were two officials from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Assistant National Statistician (ANS) Marizza B. Grande of the Civil Registration Service and Officer-In-Charge - Deputy National Statistician (OIC-DNS) Minerva Eloisa P. Esquivias of the Censuses and Technical Coordination Office.

ANS Grande attended on-site as a panelist on 25 April 2023 for the session of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on “Including the excluded: better data on statelessness”. She shared the Philippines’ initiatives in documenting every Filipino to address statelessness.  She also represented the National Statistician and Civil Registrar General at the 30th Meeting of the High-Level Group for Partnership, Coordination, and Capacity-Building for Statistics for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (HLG-PCCB) on 24 and 28 April.

OIC-DNS Esquivias presented virtually on 27 April 2023 for the session “Boosting data availability on agricultural land ownership from a gender perspective: Balancing inclusion and quantity”. She shared PSA’s experiences and practices in collecting data for SDG indicator 5.a.1 on women’s ownership of agricultural land. The presentation featured the results of the project of the PSA with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), which aims to utilize the Census of Agriculture and Fisheries (CAF) as a vehicle to collect SDG 5.a.1 data.

The PSA's participation in the UNWDF underscores its regard for global partnership and knowledge-sharing to enhance data production to support the progress toward the achievement of the SDGs.
