On a monthly basis, the Retail Price Index of Selected Construction Materials in NCR continued to register a negative rate of -0.7 percent in May from -0.3 percent in April. This was due the declines in the indexes of carpentry materials at -1.0 percent in May from zero growth in April; plumbing materials, -0.3 percent from 0.2 percent; tinsmithry materials, -0.1 percent from zero growth and miscellaneous construction materials, -1.6 percent from -1.8 percent. On the other hand, higher monthly growth rates were seen in the indexes of electrical, masonry and painting materials and related compounds at 0.2 percent, 0.1 percent and 0.5 percent, respectively from their last month�s corresponding rates of -0.9 percent, zero growth and -0.2 percent.
Price reductions were noted in tanguile, plywood, lawanit, hinges, lockset, faucet, corrugated GI sheets and plain round steel bars.

The annual growth rate of the Retail Price Index of Selected Construction Materials in NCR further decelerated to -2.5 percent in May from 1.3 percent in April. Except for painting materials and related compounds whose index advanced to 5.4 percent in May from 5.2 percent in April, all the other group indices registered lower annual price gains. The annual growth rate for carpentry materials index slowed down to 4.0 percent in May from 5.5 percent in April; electrical materials, 3.2 percent from 4.2 percent; masonry materials, 5.4 percent from 5.6 percent; plumbing materials, 1.7 percent from 2.7 percent; and tinsmithry materials, 6.9 percent from 11.8 percent. The miscellaneous construction materials group still posted a negative rate.
