On an annual basis, the Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) picked up by 2.1 percent in February 2018. Its annual rate in January 2018 was pegged at 2.0 percent and in February 2017, 2.2 percent. Higher annual increments were observed in the indices of carpentry materials at 1.6 percent; painting materials and related compounds, 1.8 percent; and tinsmithry materials, 1.4 percent.
Meanwhile, slower annual gains were noted in the indices of electrical materials at 1.0 percent; masonry materials, 2.5 percent; plumbing materials, 0.3 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 9.4 percent (see Table 2).
Month-on-Month
For three consecutive months now, the movement of the CMRPI in NCR was recorded at 0.1 percent. A higher monthly increase of 0.3 percent was observed in the index of tinsmithry materials. Meanwhile, the indices of masonry materials and painting materials and related compounds both moved up at slower pace of 0.1 percent and miscellaneous construction materials, 0.2 percent. Moreover, the indices of electrical materials declined by 0.1 percent and plumbing materials, -0.2 percent. The carpentry materials index retained its previous month’s rate of 0.1 percent (see Table 3).
Upward adjustments were posted in the prices of lumber, plywood, lawanit common wire nails, hinges, PVC pipe, plumbing fixtures, G.I. pipes, corrugated G.I. sheets and plain round steel bars. Lower prices were however, noted in common wire and finishing nails, electrical wires and paints during the month.
