The annual growth of the Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) eased to 1.5 percent in February 2015. It was recorded at 1.9 percent last month and 0.7 percent in February 2014. Annual declines were correspondingly noted in electrical and miscellaneous construction materials indices at -0.8 percent and -1.0 percent. In addition, slower annual gains were seen in the following commodity groups: carpentry materials index, 2.6 percent; masonry materials index, 6.2 percent; and painting materials and related compounds index, 2.4 percent. On the other hand, higher annual rates were observed in plumbing materials index at 1.1 percent and tinsmithry materials index, 2.5 percent.

Month-on-Month
On a monthly basis, the CMRPI in NCR dropped by 0.5 percent in February 2015. Last month, it’s growth was posted at 0.1 percent.
Monthly decreases were exhibited in electrical materials index at -1.1 percent; masonry materials index, -1.6 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials index, -0.8 percent. Moreover, a slower monthly uptick of 0.2 percent was seen in the index of tinsmithry materials. The indices of painting materials and related compounds and plumbing materials however, moved faster at 0.1 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively. No movement was noticed in the index of carpentry materials as it recorded a zero growth during the month.
Prices of selected wiring devices, cement, gravel, sand and steel bars were generally quoted lower during the month. On the contrary, sanitary fixtures and metal products used in plumbing were priced higher during the period.
