The year-on-year change of the Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) picked up by 1.1 percent in April 2016. It increased by 0.8 percent in March 2016. There was a flat growth posted in April 2015. Higher annual upward adjustments were observed in the indices of carpentry materials at 1.2 percent; masonry materials, 1.8 percent; and painting materials and related compounds, 1.5 percent. However, the annual increases in the indices of electrical materials and plumbing materials slowed down to 1.5 percent and 1.0 percent, respectively. The annual change in the indices of tinsmithry materials and miscellaneous construction materials correspondingly declined by 0.6 percent and 0.1 percent (Table 2).

Month-on-Month
On a monthly basis, the CMRPI in NCR slowed down to 0.3 percent in April 2016. Increases in the indices of masonry materials eased to 0.5 percent, plumbing materials, 0.2 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 0.7 percent. A higher monthly growth of 0.6 percent was however, noticed in carpentry materials index. The index of painting materials and related compounds retained its last month’s rate of 0.3 percent while those for electrical materials and tinsmithry materials recorded a flat growth during the month (Table 3).
Prices of plywood and veneer, hinges and lockset, cement, paints, sanitary fixtures, G. I. pipes and steel bars were higher during the month. On the other hand, lower prices were observed in wiring devices.
