Year-on-Year

The year-on-year growth of the Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) was pegged at 1.1 percent in August 2017. It was the same rate recorded in the previous month while in August 2016, it went up by 1.9 percent. The annual change of carpentry materials index rose by 0.1 percent from -0.7 percent in the previous month. In addition, higher annual increases were registered in the indices of masonry materials at 2.6 percent; painting materials and related compounds, 1.4 percent; and tinsmithry materials, 0.5 percent.

Meanwhile, slower annual gains were noted in the indices of electrical materials at 0.7 percent; plumbing materials, 1.0 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 5.6 percent (see Table 2).

Month-on-Month

The CMRPI in NCR went up by 0.5 percent in August 2017. Its growth in the previous month was registered at 0.2 percent. From zero growth recorded in July 2017, the indices of carpentry materials rose by 0.6 percent and electrical materials and tinsmithry materials, both at 0.3 percent. Higher increments were also observed in the indices of miscellaneous construction materials at 1.3 percent and painting materials and related compound, 0.6 percent. On the other hand, the increase in masonry materials index slowed down to 0.5 percent while that for plumbing materials index dropped by 0.1 percent (see Table 3).

Upward adjustments were seen in the prices of lumber, plywood, common wire nails, electrical wires, PVC pipe, sand, gravel, sand paper, G.I. pipes, G.I sheet (corrugated), and steel bars in August 2017. The price of faucet however, went down during the month (see Table 3).
