Month-on-Month

The monthly change in the retail price index of selected construction materials in (NCR) picked up to 1.9 percent in June from -0.1 percent in May. This resulted from the upward movements in carpentry and painting materials indices at 0.1 percent from -0.2 percent and -0.1 percent, respectively; electrical materials index, 5.3 percent from zero growth; masonry materials index, 3.8 percent from 0.1 percent; and tinsmithry materials index, 0.3 percent from -0.3 percent. Meanwhile, no movement was seen in plumbing materials index as it posted a zero growth during the month while that for miscellaneous construction materials index further dropped by -0.9 percent from -0.6 percent.

Price add-ons were noted in common wire nails, electrical wires, cement, sand, gravel, hollow blocks and corrugated GI sheet.

Year-on-Year

On an annual basis, the retail price index of selected construction materials in the National Capital Region (NCR) increased 4.7 percent in June from 2.6 percent in May. Higher annual increments were observed in the indices of the following commodity groups: carpentry materials, 1.7 percent from 1.2 percent; electrical materials, 7.9 percent from 2.1 percent; and masonry materials, 5.9 percent from 2.3 percent. Slower annual gain was however noted in painting materials and related compounds index at 2.5 percent from 2.9 percent; plumbing materials index, 1.8 percent from 2.0 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials index, 14.0 percent from 15.1 percent. The movement in tinsmithry materials index was still negative at -1.9 percent from -2.0 percent.
