Year-on-Year

The annual increment of the retail price index of selected construction materials in NCR eased to 2.6 percent in May from 2.9 percent in April. The annual gain in carpentry materials index slowed down to 1.2 percent in May from 2.1 percent in April; electrical materials index, 2.1 percent from 2.2 percent; painting materials and related compounds index, 2.9 percent from 3.7 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials index, 15.1 percent from 16.0 percent. Movement in the index of tinsmithry materials was still negative at -2.0 percent from -2.2 percent. Higher annual growth rates were seen in the rest of the commodity groups.

Month-on-Month

The monthly change of the retail price index of selected construction materials in the National Capital Region (NCR) dropped by -0.1 percent in May from 0.3 percent in April. It resulted from the negative monthly adjustment in carpentry materials index at -0.2 percent in May from 0.3 percent in April; painting materials and related compounds index, -0.1 percent from 0.2 percent; tinsmithry materials index, -0.3 percent from 0.2 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials index, -0.6 percent from 1.4 percent. The monthly rate in masonry materials index remained at 0.1 percent while a zero growth was recorded in electrical materials index. The annual growth in plumbing materials index however went up to 0.2 percent from zero growth.

Price decreases were noted in selected plywood, nails, paints, corrugated GI sheet and plain round steel bars.
