RICE STOCK

• The June 1, 2007 total rice stock inventory reached 1.63 million metric tons, down by 14.1 and 26.5 percent from its month and year ago levels, respectively.
• This month’s stock position in all sectors dropped compared to those of last month with major drawdown of 17.9 percent in the households, while 11.6 and 0.5 percent in commercial warehouses and NFA depositories, respectively. It was reported that NFA procurement was lower by 85.0 and 37.0 percent from its month and year ago records, respectively. About 85.0 percent of NFA stocks were imported rice.
• Compared to the previous year’s same period stock position, the household, commercial and NFA holdings posted lower levels. The latter posted a significant 65.7 percent reduction relative to the 15.9 percent drop in commercial warehouses and 2.6 percent in the households.
• As of the reporting period, the total rice stocks was good for 51 days supply. NFA rice stock was good for 8 days, while households and commercial warehouses had 30 and 13 days supply, respectively.

CORN STOCK

• The June 1, 2007 total corn stock inventory of 131 thousand metric tons was lower by 36.1 percent than last month’s level and 10.3 percent compared to same period in 2006.
• Compared to previous month and last year’s stock levels, this month’s corn stock in the households 50.1 and 35.7 percent, respectively. Stocks in commercial warehouses on the other hand, dropped by 17.6 percent from last month’s inventory, but went up by 31.2 from  last  year’s record.
• Around 44 percent of the  current  corn stock are with the households and 56.0 percent are with commercial warehouses. NFA reported 5 metric tons  of corngrain for the period.
