Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - September 2009)

  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR and AONCR recorded at their corresponding September levels of 152.4 and 163.5 were higher than their respective August levels of 151.4 and 162.8.

Seasonal factors such as the heavy rains experienced during the month raised prices of selected vegetables in NCR and AONCR. Likewise, the stormy weather conditions that limited fishermen’s fishing trips increased prices of selected fish species in many regions in AONCR. Thus, prices of FBT items in the two areas were generally pushed up by these seasonal factors relative to the expected trend.

Measured a month ago, prices of seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in NCR and AONCR respectively went up to 0.7 percent and 0.4 percent in September from 0.1 percent last month.

  2. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

Compared to their previous month’s levels, the seasonally adjusted CPI of Non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR were correspondingly higher at 159.6 and 159.2 in September.

The lean month of September raised prices of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR relative to the expected trend.

The monthly rate of change of the seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR respectively grew by 0.5 percent from their last month’s rate of 0.3 percent.
